for someone who seems the embodiment of “mellow,” finding out that seth rogen had undiagnosed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd) might offer insight into why his use of the plant, as he freely admits, is an everyday thing.
knee-deep in cannabis — whether smoking it recreationally, advocating for legal and social change or offering related accessories in a bid to normalize weed — rogen proved an apt subject to discuss his life, career and more on 4/20 this week.
in an interview with new york times magazine, rogen and his father mark rogen explained how using marijuana proved the little extra beyond all the other approaches the family was taking to address his adhd.
“we had him on a strict diet that helped keep him in balance, but it wasn’t 100 per cent. marijuana finally made his cells relax,” rogen’s father said, according to et canada.
“it’s just a tool we use to make our experience more palatable, and some people need those tools a lot more than others,” added the actor/writer and cannabis entrepreneur.
rogen pointed out that what may work for one person may be totally different than what helps another. “for me, it’s like shoes,” he said. “for you, it might be like sunglasses. not everyone’s the same,”

but his mother, sandy rogen, reported her son also had a mild case of tourette’s syndrome, making it very difficult for him to sit still in school, which along with his sense of humour, could get him into trouble.
“he was really smart and could take things teachers said and twist them against them, making the class laugh at them and embarrassing them,” mark rogen said.
a study published in 2017 found “cannabis use did not impact behavioural response inhibition” in young adults with adhd, but research that was released in 2016 indicated 25 per cent of individual posts noted weed is therapeutic for the condition.
with a more mellow approach now, bountiful energy and plenty of weed, rogen said he keeps himself busy with various projects. “on a given day, i work on seven different things, probably, in little chunks,” he said, per et canada.
one of those things is likely the recent launch of houseplant in california. the brand, which emphasizes social impact and a commitment to ending unjust cannabis laws, includes a line of select cannabis strains and housewares like ashtrays, lighters and ceramics, a newfound passion for rogen.
“you’re even starting to dress like a guy who does ceramics and sells weed,” jimmy kimmel said to rogen during a recent episode of jimmy kimmel live. “it’s kinda like if mr. rogers got high.”

asking rogen about the support he has received for his ceramics work, he seemed genuinely surprised. “i am a little fascinated by it, i will say,” he said.
“i’m glad i was able to capture so many people’s attention. people seem really proud. they seem genuinely proud of me. i’ve made so many movies; nobody has seemed proud of me afterwards. that has never been the sense i’ve gotten from my audience,” he quipped.
“i really love ceramics and i found that i can express myself through ceramics.”
