summerside, p.e.i. — there are no injuries after a summerside house fire that destroyed a garage.
at around 5 p.m. on aug. 6, the summerside fire department received a call for a fire at a house on east drive; neighbours had noticed it first.
“it started in the garbage, but the garage was in close proximity to the house,” said fire chief ron enman. “they were both on fire.”
when the department arrived, the house was engulfed. all six fire trucks attended the scene, as well as around 50 members.
“it was a very quick knock-down,” said enman. “lot of clean-up and mop-up afterwards, but they were on scene, probably, a little over an hour”
the damages, he said, were extensive, adding the garage is a total loss and the house, damaged both inside and out, is likely in need of repairs.
while residents were home at the time, they were able to get out safely.
“it was a hot, hot evening for our guys,” enman said. “just keeping everybody hydrated was also a factor.”
the fire marshals office is investigating.
