people may be familiar with test driving vehicles when on the hunt for a new car. a recent event in charlottetown put a different spin on the concept when bayliner brought its boat demonstration tour to peakes wharf on a sunny july afternoon.
the event, held in partnership with quartermaster marine, allowed visitors to experience their boats on the water while learning about their handling, performance and features.
natalie chrapla, bayliner’s marketing manager, said the company launched the demonstrations to make boating feel less daunting to first-time buyers.
“we wanted customers to come out and experience the boats, be able to test drive them and see how they work,” she said.

chrapla said bayliner aims to make boating affordable and approachable for those who have never owned a vessel.
“we like to say that anybody can get into boating,” she said. “it’s not as intimidating as you might think.”

the peakes demo is the first stop in what the company hopes will become a broader canadian demonstration tour.
“we’re testing to see how it works and if consumers are interested,” chrapla said.
by early afternoon, about 30 people had participated in the demonstrations, with the event continuing until 4 p.m.
