a 44-year-old digby county man has been charged with child pornography offences.
on june 19, the rcmp says, its provincial internet child exploitation unit, assisted by digby rcmp and digital forensic services, searched a home on ridge road in acaciaville, a community about 35 kilometres southwest of annapolis royal.
the rcmp said they seized electronic evidence after learning that child pornography was being transmitted by a user accessing the internet in that residence.
justin john horner of acaciaville was arrested and additional evidence was seized from the home.
horner has been charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.
horner was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in digby provincial court on oct. 14.
the rcmp advises that in nova scotia it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography, and anyone who discovers child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police.
failure to report the discovery of child pornography could result in penalties similar to those for failure to report child abuse, as set out in the child and family services act.
the rcmp encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting suspected offences to local police or to canada’s national tip line: cybertip.ca.
