marysville — the wolfe islander iv returned to kingston-area waters this week but won’t be back in service just yet.
the 399-passenger, 75-vehicle ferry, which was in full-time service for less than four months before being damaged in a collision in early december, is currently docked in the newly rebuilt terminal in marysville.
the “minor damage” the ferry sustained put it out of service and in a dry dock in hamilton for repair.
“prior to return to service, the vessel will undergo fire and safety inspections and drills, as well as testing to confirm that systems are functioning well and meet all regulatory requirements,” the ontario ministry of transportation said in a statement thursday morning.
“once the testing and inspections are completed, which are conducted on-site with crew, the wolfe islander iv will return to service. further details will be provided following inspections and safety testing.”
since the new ferry was removed from service, the wolfe islander iii has been transporting passengers and vehicles on the route between kingston and the dawson point dock on wolfe island.
