in vancouver, all community centres are closed on jan. 1, except for kerrisdale (open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), mount pleasant (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and trout lake (10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).
more fitness centres are open. in addition to the above three, also open are: britannia, kerrisdale, killarney, kitsilano, lord byng, mount pleasant, trout lake, vancouver aquatic centre, and the west end. check

for those who want to start the new year with a dip, you can try the pools at britannia (1 to 5 p.m.), killarney (1 to 9 p.m.), lord byng (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), or the vancouver aquatic centre (8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).
for brave souls who want to go for a frosty outdoor swim to ring in the new year, the annual
polar bear swim event is set to start at 11:30 a.m. at english bay (program starts at 2 p.m., the swim at 2:30 p.m.).
for libraries, most vancouver public library branches will be closed on jan. 1. the only exception is carnegie branch in the downtown eastside, which will be open 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
those looking to lace up their skates can do so at hillcrest, kerrisdale, killarney, kitsilano, sunset, trout lake and west end rinks. (britannia rink, which is usually open on new year’s day, is closed on jan. 1, 2026 for maintenance and upgrades.)
