two fatal overdoses involving suspected fentanyl in the past three days have prompted a warning from swift current rcmp.
police said in a news release on jan. 1 that the overdoses involved a 30-year-old man who died on dec. 29, and a 27-year-old man, who died on dec. 31.
the two men did not consume the same substances, police said — one substance was a green powder; the other clear or white crystals. the two substances did not look like regular fentanyl and may not have been sold as fentanyl, police added, police field tests of both substances detected the presence of fentanyl.
swift current rcmp is urging people who use illicit drugs to take special precautions. users should never use alone, let someone you trust know plans to use, and always carry a naloxone kit, which are available free at many locations in the province.
people should also call 911 if they suspect an overdose is occurring.
