rcmp seeks witnesses to fatal crashes in burnaby, maple ridge

police in burnaby and maple ridge are appealing for witnesses to separate early-morning crashes within minutes of each other that left a man and woman dead.
a two-vehicle crash just after 5:20 a.m. on monday on austin road near gatineau place in burnaby, a short block away from lougheed highway, left the drive of one of the vehicles dead.
the driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene and is co-operating with police.
the cause of the crash is under investigation, said cpl. laura hirst of the burnaby rcmp.
“if you witnessed the collision and have not spoken to police, or if you have dashcam video in the area, please contact our investigators,” she said in a news release.
police are looking for witnesses or dashcam footage on austin road, in either direction, between 5:10 and 5:30 a.m. on jan. 5. anyone with information can contact burnaby rcmp at 604-646-9566.
in maple ridge, a female pedestrian was hit by a vehicle at about 5:30 a.m. monday and died in hospital of her injuries.
ridge meadows rcmp’s serious crime unit is investigating that crash near the intersection of lougheed highway and laity street.
“police are speaking to the driver of the vehicle, and the investigation is ongoing,” said an rcmp spokesperson in a news release.
