surrey police identify man killed in barrage of gunfire saturday

the man killed in a shooting at a surrey townhouse complex is believed to have links to the drug trade and organized crime, police said.
jasman sekhon died after he was shot in the 15100-block of 60th avenue in surrey’s sullivan heights neighbourhood saturday evening.
sekhon, 27, had previous interactions with police and is believed to be involved with drugs, sgt. freda fong of the integrated homicide investigation team said on monday. the shooting is believed to be targeted and gang-related.
“this was a brazen shooting in what is usually a quiet neighbourhood,” fong said in a statement. “investigators are working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding the homicide and identifying all parties involved.”

a barrage of gunfire was captured by a home security video obtained by ctv news. in it, at least two dozen shots could be heard in quick succession. someone could also be heard screaming.
the incident occurred at around 6:40 p.m. sekhon died at the scene.
on monday, police identified sekhon in the hopes of getting information that would help with its investigation.

about 15 minutes after the shooting, police found a blue hyundai suv in flames in the area of 186th street and 44th avenue in a semi-rural area, about 10 kilometres away. burning the getaway vehicle is common in gang hits in the lower mainland.

investigators are looking for information and video from people who were at either the townhouse complex or the site where the burnt vehicle was found on march 28 between 6 and 7:30 p.m.
