a man in his 30s has been charged with impaired driving after police said a vehicle was driven the wrong way on the gardiner expressway and through a construction site before ultimately falling through a “hole” onto strachan ave. late tuesday afternoon.
there were no serious injuries.
“this person is very fortunate, at least in that portion of not having any injuries,” toronto police duty insp. brian maslowski told reporters near the scene on tuesday night.
cops said the vehicle, a grey honda, went through a construction zone and fell through a hole at dufferin st. onto strachan.
“it smashed through a construction gate and went through a large opening,” maslowski said. “somehow, he made his way through the construction area, through the hole. it travelled through a large hole … flipped upside down.”
police said the driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
toronto police alerted the public at 5:37 p.m. via a post to the social-media site x that a vehicle was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the gardiner at spadina ave.
