four former lawyers now get to be addressed by the honorific ‘your honour’ after being sworn in monday as judges with the ontario court of justice.
the appointments by ontario’s attorney general results in a beefing up of the judgeship ranks at one of windsor’s downtown courthouses, although their duty to mete out justice will be shared with courtrooms in chatham and sarnia.

two of the new judges, ilana mizel from the local crown office and criminal defence lawyer daniel topp, were culled from the windsor legal ranks. gregory mcgivern was a chatham private practice lawyer, and adam campbell was a long-time assistant crown attorney in london.

the local legal community is hopeful the additions to the judicial bench will help in reducing delays in windsor’s busiest court, which handles a wide variety of legal cases.
the fresh windsor appointees include one judge who can preside over cases in french, while another will preside over courts in chatham and sarnia.
