the city of toronto wrapped up its major snowstorm condition and significant weather event declarations wednesday at 4 p.m., which had been in effect since feb. 12 after multiple blizzards dumped a combined 53 cm of the white stuff on the region in less than two weeks.
the declarations were put in place to improve the efficiency of road maintenance by prohibiting parking on designated snow routes, allowing plowing crews to clear roads and sidewalks faster.
“the city would like to thank residents for their patience and co-operation in keeping their cars off of the snow routes during this time and identifying areas across the city that need special attention by submitting requests through 311,” a news release said.
with the declarations over, covers are being removed from on-street parking meters and commuters can again use the green p mobile app to pay for parking on designated snow routes.
the city, however, said snow removal is continuing “where necessary” with temporary orange “no parking” signs being posted within 48 hours of work starting. the release warned that any vehicles parked on such streets could be fined or towed at the owner’s expense.

crews are also working “around the clock” to inspect and clear catch basins, especially ones in low-lying areas, with rain expected to continue overnight and mild temperatures forecast in the coming days.
the city said service requests for snow cleanup are still being accepted by calling 311 or visiting its website.
