a 13-year-old boy who was hit by an suv at a saskatoon crosswalk while biking to school has told family he’s glad he wore his helmet, his sister says.
enoch o’soup was struck while crossing at the intersection of central avenue and fedoruk drive on the morning of dec. 6. police were called around 8:15 a.m., and he was taken to royal university hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries. the incident is under investigation.
the boy’s older sister kayla said he was released from hospital hours later and is doing well.
“miraculously, he had a concussion and a swollen leg,” she said.
enoch was wearing a helmet, and one of the first things he told family members is that he always makes sure he wears it, kayla said. he learned at school about the possible consequences of being involved in an accident without one.
“the doctors and the paramedics who were on scene, they told my dad that the injuries could have been a whole lot worse if he hadn’t been wearing his helmet,” she said.
enoch’s helmet was cracked completely by the impact.
she said the last thing he remembers is seeing the walk light at the intersection and being in the crosswalk, but he doesn’t recall what happened after that.
