a hotel may finally be in store for east windsor.
the city’s development committee on monday backed plans for a four-storey hotel on centelon drive — near lauzon parkway and meadowbrook park – with 71 guest rooms, as well as a separate one-storey public hall.
the vacant lot is currently zoned as a manufacturing district. without debate, the committee endorsed a staff recommendation to change the property’s zoning to commercial.
“it’s a great development — we’ve talked about a hotel out in the east end for a long time, so this is great to see it come forward,” committee chair and ward 10 coun. jim morrison told reporters after the meeting.
“if there’s a big event at the wfcu arena, this is where people can stay. there’s a hall that looks kind of like other halls that we have, like the caboto and the ciociaro. i think this is a great amenity for out in the east end.”
the zoning change is still subject to final approval from city council as a whole.
morrison noted that another new hotel, hyatt place, opened in the city’s west end a few months ago.
“we have a lot of people wanting to come here for tourism and for events, and so this, this is great,” morrison said. “it’s showing that we are still really a growing, vibrant city, and we’re attracting people to the region.”
