a 33-year-old man who allegedly resisted arrest and tried to disarm a police officer in downtown windsor now faces multiple charges.
officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft in the 800 block of janette avenue on sunday morning just after 8:30 a.m.
a complainant told police he had left his vehicle running and unattended when he observed an unknown man jump inside and drive away.
officers on patrol located the stolen suv a short time later in a parking lot in the 900 block of wyandotte street east.
as an officer attempted to arrest the man suspected of stealing the vehicle, he allegedly resisted and became “combative,” according to police.
during the physical struggle, police said the suspect tried to gain control of the officer’s conducted energy weapon, commonly known as a taser.
he was eventually placed under arrest.
police said no serious injuries occurred.
the man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer, disarming a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000 and failure to comply with a release order.
