many people start fitness programs for all the right reasons; to lose weight, increase strength, and improve overall health. often starting can be the first challenge so once you’ve started, you’re officially over the first hurdle. however, all too often the initial motivation wanes and many people will stop within a short period of time. typical reasons for stopping might include getting bored with the chosen exercise or training regimen, not finding enjoyment in it, and a lack of “results”.
here are my top five tips to help you stay motivated, stay on track, and get the best results.
set many short-term goals on the way to that long-term goal
having a goal is a great way to stay motivated, but if it’s too ambitious it’s easy to get frustrated and give up — way before reaching your “finish line.” start with a simple, realistic goal that you think you can achieve in the short-term — for example, three straight weeks of adding 30 minutes of exercise to your schedule, three times per week (the “triple three” goal). once you’ve achieved it, give yourself a pat on the back and make a new goal. maybe the next one can incorporate pushing yourself to the next level. by taking multiple steps towards a long-term goal, you will be setting yourself up for success.
